PopTarts and PopStuds are music showcase events that have grown into being a community of music artists. In addition to live shows and special ‘One Night Stands’ at venues like Sydney’s The Basement, PopTarts now are on the Telly, with PopTarts TV being aired in October on TVS (Channel 31).
Running for 7 years, we are committed to promoting, supporting and inspiring original, independent female (& now also male) fronted Pop.
Live Shows
Want to discover some of the best original music in Sydney? Or want to perform some live shows at great venues among a supportive group of other artists and industry folk?
Just befriend us at www.myspace.com/poptartslive to find out what's happening and send us a message if you'd like a gig. Our regular home is at The Unity Hall Hotel in Darling Street Balmain and we'll be there the first Tuesday night of every month.
Now "Pop" is in the broadest sense of the word - if it's popular anywhere, we'll have it. Our Sydney weekly showcases have been running for almost 7 years (with our annual birthday party at the The Basement).
One night Stands! Blimey!?
In addition, we also run special PopTarts One Night Stands, at venues such as Bar Me in King’s Cross and Madame Fling Flong’s in Newtown. We’ve even had shows in Melbourne at PopTarts South!

PopTarts TV
PopTarts TV – a 13 episode series featuring live performances and cheeky behind-the-scenes interviews with local, independent female music artists, will debut on air on free-to-air's newest TV channel, Television Sydney (TVS) on Tuesday October 7 at 8:30pm
Most of the artists appearing during the 13-week series were filmed at PopTarts' events, at its 'home' at Balmain's Unity Hall Hotel and at other One Night Stand events at venues including The Basement and Newtown's Madame Fling Flong's.
The TV Show is hosted by PopTarts' founder and local music artist Amanda Easton, who produced the show alongside Producer Steve Keating.
'PopTarts recently celebrated its 7th birthday and during that time I have seen so many amazing indie artists perform at our events. I really believe they can achieve a great deal more success if only they are exposed to a bigger audience. TV is the key to that,' says Easton.
'Of course we have Australian Idol, but PopTarts TV is not about a competition or major record labels. This business is hard enough without being ripped to shreds in front of a national television audience! Our show will allow viewers to make up their own minds about what they like and the artist's careers will stay in their own hands,'
'I think independent artists have a much better chance to see some success if they work together in a community. PopTarts is now made up of 100s of artists who share opportunities and help each other out. After all the live gigs we organise, TV seemed like the logical place to go next,' she said
The pilot episode of PopTarts TV at 8:30pm on Tuesday October 7, will feature artists Ami Williamson, Heidi Elva, The Orphans and Kiko. There will be four to six artists featured every week.
PopTarts TV will also have an interactive element, with many of the songs featured on the show available for free download from www.myspace.com/poptartslive. The downloads are powered by The Local Scene, Australian first advertising-driven free digital download store for Australia's artists. This service allows fans to download mp3 music tracks for free, while artists still get paid through advertising support.
The regular PopTarts Live events will continue on the first Tuesday of every month at Balmain's Unity Hall Hotel, with October 7's showcase featuring Christie Lamb, Mindy Sotiri, Annaliese Szota and Melinda Sawayama.
Artists interested in being a PopTart can contact Amanda at www.myspace.com/poptartslive . PopTarts TV will also be streamed from the site. PopTarts TV will continue for 13 weeks and will be shown every Tuesday night at 8:30pm and repeated on Thursdays at 12.00am and again on Saturdays at 4.00am for the night owls.
