Angus James is more than just a Man in a Tree or sitting on A Beach Somewhere - Despite what his two album titles might imply. Presently Angus is jet setting around the world - from the United States to Asia to Australia and wherever else inspiration may take him. This is a brave, soul searching journey that will no doubt bring forth more great tunes like A Beach Somewhere which stayed at Number 1 on MP3.com for 12 weeks.
All of this travel is a remarkable feat for a man who does not even like to fly. Track 7 from his new album is called Too Fast and talks about his fear of flying: lyrics bellow out, “this is no way to go.” It’s a far cry from the tours he has done within Australia: 3 roundtrip tours from Sydney to Cairns. That’s more than a thousand kilometers per trip. But in contrast to planes careening through the air, these tours were done on the safely of land in a car on the biggest island on the planet. This is the sort of tenacity that Angus displays as an artist of merit and heart, worthy of every success for the hard work encountered along the way. Angus is an autobiographical writer; his vision and insight are shared through his lyrics and music. This is what touches people when they hear Angus James. The truth, the white lies, the hidden and double meanings in the words – these are all drawn from real life experiences and every song has a story behind it.
His musical story is one that started many years ago, but only became a driving force in Angus’s life after nearly losing his eyesight. He decided that music was his calling and that inspiration produced A Beach Somewhere, his first release in 2002. This album is still gracing the radio sound waves across the country. In 2005, we saw the follow-up album, Man in a Tree. The Launch was held at the prestigious Sydney venue, The Basement, to a full house.
