After being a part of twenty or so world class recordings, it's not
surprising that Syd is producing albums himself and is available for
recording and mixing sessions combining home and professional studio
equipment for demo recordings and professional albums.
Syd believes in this era of technology, one can combine and
manipulate the best features of home and studio (digital and analog) to
produce an affordable world-class recording. Many times it seems the
word "production" is overlooked. It is not just about knowledge of
acoustical foundations. It should also essentially be concerned with
capturing the essence of an artist.
Syd feels that it is fundamentally vital for an artist to feel at
ease and comfortable in his/her own environment in order to achieve the
most successful and pleasing results possible. Taking on board all the
tools and skills handed down through observation and practice, Syd has
worked under and alongside 'Masters of Sound' producers Terry Date (Soundgarden, Limp Bizkit, Pantera), Michael Letho (iota, Screaming Jets), and Doug Roberts (Crowded House). iota's Big Grandfather was co-produced and recorded in 2001 by Syd as well as La Caravana in 2002.
He has worked with guitarist and singer extraordinaire Matt Tonks recording and producing (and playing drums) on his debut solo album Synaesthesia . Drums were recorded at Q Studios, overdubs were done at an isolated farm location, and the album was mixed and mastered by Michael Letho in Melbourne.
Dirty Lucy’s newest release Music, People, Cities, Lights and Darkness
was recorded, mixed and produced by Syd, Jody Moore and Nicole Brophy.
Again, Syd adopted the above method of recording, that is, drums and
violin were captured at 301 Studio’s orchestral room, and vocals and
additional overdubs were recorded at Main Street Studios in the Gong.
Utilising the solitude and peace of a farm on the south coast, Syd set
up in an old converted barn and mixed entirely using Protools (okay and
a couple of warm outboard compressors and a 1/4 inch tape machine known
as blinky).
See Current page for most recent and up-to-date information on sound projects.
Syd is also available to play drums, lap steel, dobro and
percussion along with recording and producing responsibilities. If you
are seeking a sound producer with "a knowledge of acoustics, with the head space of a musician"
and you want your music to sound like it has come from the heart,
please email Syd who will be happy to discuss any producing queries...
